Background


A graduate of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Carole has enjoyed a thirty-seven year career as a professional cellist. She has served as a tenured longtime member of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. She is the Principal Cellist for Pro Musica Colorado Chamber Orchestra and performs with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet and Opera Colorado. She has done solo continuo for the Colorado Bach Ensemble and the Boulder Bach Festival and has served as a guest artist with the Colorado Chamber Players.


Before becoming a full-time Colorado resident, Carole was the Assistant Principal Cellist of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.


With the NJSO, she was soloist with the orchestra and performed countless outreach and chamber music concerts.  She was also an active participant in governance and leadership involving community relations, strategic planning, and educational outreach.


Being deeply committed to experiencing the joys of classical music throughout her life has made Carole passionate about sharing her enthusiasm with audiences of all ages.


She has taught students ages 8-80, coached chamber music, mentored youth symphony participants, and given master classes.


When not practicing or performing, you will find Carole in her art studio focusing on collage and mixed media projects.

Alumna Enjoys A 37 Year Career As A Professional Cellist

An alumna of the NRO when it was the Colorado Philharmonic located in Evergreen, CO, Carole Whitney was a member of the cello section in 1974.  Already a student at Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, she had carved out a dream to have a job as a member of a symphony orchestra.  “With the number of works we covered in a summer, I was well placed to move forward in my love of the orchestra repertoire,” Carole states.
